Phousi Hill

(0 review) • ₭

Phou Si Hill, also called Phou Si Mountain, is a small mountain located in the center of Luang Prabang on the peninsula between the Mekong and Nam Khan rivers. The name "Phou Si" means "sacred hill" in Lao. It stands about 100 meters tall and offers panoramic views of the surrounding area, including the rivers, the city, and the forested mountains to the east.

At the top of the hill, there is a narrow platform with a small Buddhist temple and a golden stupa. Many people visit Phou Si Hill to watch the sunset from the platform, which can get quite crowded.

There are two stairways leading to the top of the hill, and it is recommended to take one up and the other down to fully appreciate the views and shrines. The most commonly used stairway is located on Sisavangvong Road, opposite the Royal Palace Museum, and consists of 328 steps.
